Welcome to our blog filers, it is so pleasing to have you all here. We know each week we provide you with information but today for a change, we are here to remind you about IFTA tax return due date that is falling on April 30th 2014. We know it is so difficult to be a trucker and taxes are more like an obligation for everyone. You pay them to stay safer, you don’t pay them, you pay with penalties. With time moving by, we have learned to manage and handle time, understanding what is important and what should stay away from our checklist. However, for this month, you have an important task in your tow, paying your IFTA tax return on or before 30thApril 2014.

What Is IFTA?

To start from scratch, IFTA (International Fuel Tax Agreement) is an agreement between the lower 48 states of the United States and the Canadian provinces, to simplify the reporting of fuel use by motor carriers that operate in more than one jurisdiction. However, an operating carrier receives an IFTA license and a decal for each qualifying vehicle it operates and is required to file their quarterly IFTA tax report, determining the net tax and the refund due through the form.

What Are The Documents Required To File IFTA?

Well, while getting ready for filing IFTA, the following are the documents required to file and pay your dues.

  • ·         Total miles, taxable and nontaxable, traveled by the licensee’s qualified motor vehicles in all jurisdictions, IFTA and non-IFTA, including trip permit miles
  • ·         Total gallons of fuel consumed, taxable and nontaxable
  • ·         Total miles and taxable miles traveled in each member jurisdiction
  • ·         Taxable gallons consumed in each member jurisdiction
  • ·         Tax-paid gallons purchased in each member jurisdiction and
  • ·         Current tax rates for each member jurisdiction.

IFTA Tax calculations are done on the basis of the gallons you have used and the miles you have covered by the end of the fiscal quarter and the payment should be filed to the base jurisdiction by April 30th for first quarter.

Do you think you fall in the category of filing taxes, you should read the following:

If you are an interstate motor carrier operator, qualified as motor vehicle and at least traveled 2 member jurisdictions among the 48 contiguous states of the US and 10 Canadian provinces, should have an International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) license and decals issued by their base jurisdiction.
