What is IFTA?
The International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), an agreement among the 48 contiguous states of the United States and the 10 Canadian Provinces, simplifies the reporting of fuel taxes. To avoid Complications involved in preparing multiple reports and paying taxes separately for Each State, IFTA allows Interstate Truckers to prepare and File one consolidated Quarterly Report to their Base jurisdiction.
Due Dates for IFTA:
International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) reports are due four times a year, the last day of the month after each quarter. The IFTA fuel tax report is required. Even if no taxable fuel was used or operations were conducted during the reporting period.
The exact Due dates are April 30th, July 31st, October 31st and January 31st. If the last day of the month falls on a weekend or legal holiday, the next business day would be considered as the due date. With less than 10 Business days in hand, Right now we are very close to the Second Quarter Due Date.
How and Where to Prepare the IFTA Report?
There are two different ways to file your IFTA return, depending on your base jurisdiction. The first is to complete report by paper and mail it in. The second is to submit the return electronically (Only if your Base Jurisdiction has the provision).
